Building state-of-the-art sports and recreation facilities in Alberta

Working With SWMW: Expert Design-Build Solutions for Sport and Recreation Projects

At Southwest and Midwest Design & Construction, we specialize in delivering large-scale construction projects across Alberta – particularly within sports facility construction.

The work we do as a team balances creative design, technical experience, and a strong commitment to our community and customers. From national parks to community grandstands to multi-use recreational spaces, the SWMW team works tirelessly to bring our sports and recreation project owners' visions to life!

Whether you're planning to build or renovate a well-loved local sports complex or a professional, national-level facility, the SWMW design-build approach allows us to streamline the process from concept to completion.

As proud Albertans ourselves, we understand how important it is to build recreational structures/facilities that will stand the test of time and play!

Sports and Recreation Project Portfolio

At SWMW, our portfolio spans over four decades – and reflects our expertise as a premier sports and recreation facility contractor in Alberta. These two projects standout to us as true examples of our commitment to quality, innovation, and community impact.

CKC Grandstand – Grande Prairie

The CKC Grandstand in Grande Prairie, located within the Community Knowledge Campus (CKC), is a prime example of our capability in sports facility construction.

This state-of-the-art structure was designed to serve as a hub for local and national sporting events. With seating for 850 spectators and space for an additional 1,200 people on the upper concourse, the grandstand provides a modern, spacious venue for athletes and fans alike.

It features eight change rooms, showers, training rooms, a press booth, and a concession area, all tailor-made to meet the needs of large-scale games. Completed on time for the 2018 Alberta Summer Games, this project showcases our ability to deliver under tight deadlines and high expectations.

Waterton National Park – Crandell Lake Campground Rebuild

While primarily a reconstruction project, the Crandell Lake Campground in Waterton National Park underlines the SWMW team’s dedication to complex construction within sensitive environments.

After the devastating Kenow Wildfire, which burned over 19,000 hectares of land within the National Park, our team worked under a federal government contract to restore the campground's infrastructure.

Our focus on preserving fish habitats, protecting bird nesting areas, and respecting the surrounding Indigenous lands during construction illustrates our capability to balance a build project with environmental and cultural responsibility.

Though primarily focused on recreation and outdoor activities, this project highlights our expertise in handling projects that focus on Alberta’s natural landscapes.
