Multi-Unit Residential

Our strategy guarantees a one-stop shop for multi-unit residential build projects

Multi-Unit Residential Building Construction

The Southwest and Midwest Design & Construction team has more than 40 years of experience working as general contractors in Alberta and Northern Canada, with a focus on specialized design-build projects and commercial construction.

In recent years, we’ve leveraged our expertise in construction within the industrial, institutional, and commercial sectors to begin our foray into multi-unit residential projects, beginning with a complex build in Inuvik, NT and a modern take on student residences in Lethbridge, Alberta.

When planning and building multi-unit residential buildings, we apply our design-build method. Design-build guarantees that the budget and schedule are respected without compromising quality.

Through the years, we've built up strong relationships with our clients, and now we have the team and the know-how to take on any multi-unit residential building project.

Defining Multi-Unit Residential Buildings

Multi-unit residential structures can include townhomes, condominium buildings, apartment complexes, student housing, or senior residences.

Multi-unit buildings are typically no higher than 4 storeys, and the amount of individual units in the building can vary depending on project specifications.

Expert Project Management

Our team specializes in specialized design-build projects. We're with our clients every step of the way – from the beginning to the end of the project, and always with the end goal in mind.

We collaborate with our clients to ensure we understand their vision, so that we can develop a custom product built to specification.

Our strategy guarantees a one-stop shop for multi-unit residential build projects; we'll take care of the design, administration, and procurement while making sure you have a dedicated project manager to guide you through project progress.

Our Multi-Unit Residential Build Expertise

Our talented team of designers, construction managers, and project managers have extensive experience within the commercial sector, and can tackle just about any multi-unit residential project.

Take a look at an ongoing multi-unit residential build that we’re particularly proud of below:

Multi-Unit Residence in Inuvik, NT:

In 2020, we were contracted by one of our longtime construction partners in Inuvik to build a steel envelope structure for what would eventually become an apartment complex. Initially, this was our only mandate.

A steel envelope is essentially the structure of the building with no interior fitting; the roof, siding, windows, and doorways.

The envelope took about a year, and because of our team’s exceptional work, even in the arctic extremes of the Northwest Territories – we were asked to provide a quote for finishing the rest of the apartment complex: the interior fit.

Interior fitting means installing mechanical and electrical systems, ceilings, flooring, walls and other building aspects to ensure the building is ready for occupancy.

The extreme cold over the winter months resulted in a delay from Winter to Spring of 2022, and we’ve now resumed work to finish the interior fitting and are still on track for our projected completion timeframe of March 2023.

The fact that we’re able to honour our timeline even through the uncertainties of supply chain issues, delivery of materials to the Arctic, and delays in construction due to extreme weather is a testament to our meticulous planning and communication skills.
